Day 2 - "The Striving That Drains You"
Welcome to the Holy Rebel: The Worth He Died For
Day 2 – Proving Yourself Will Kill You
You weren’t made to earn love—you were made to receive it.
How long have you been running on a treadmill that never stops?
Chasing approval.
Striving for acceptance.
Proving your worth—again and again.
But here’s the truth no one told you:
You don’t have to prove you’re worthy to be loved.
Trying to earn love will only exhaust your soul.
The lie you carry says, “If I’m not perfect, I’m not enough.”
And so you hustle—trying to fix, earn, perform, and control.
But the grind only leads to burnout, bitterness, and deeper wounds.
Jesus came to free you from that exhausting cycle.
He offers a love that is unearned and unchanging.
Grace doesn’t require you to prove anything—it invites you to rest in who Christ has made you to be, empowering you by His Spirit to grow and become more like Him.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (AMP) reminds us:
“For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation]..”
Your worth is not a reward for good behavior—it is a gift, freely given, freely received.

Devotional Scriptures (AMP):
— Ephesians 2:8-9 (AMP)
“For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation].”
— Zephaniah 3:17 (AMP)
“The Lord your God is in your midst, A Warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with joy; He will be quiet in His love [making no mention of your past sins], He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”
Reflection:
Where are you still trying to prove your worth?
How does it feel to know God’s love is not based on your performance?
Ask God to help you accept His grace fully and rest in His unfailing love while trusting Him to transform you daily.
If you downloaded today’s PDF from GodDesign.org—go to Day 2 and say this declaration and prayer with me.
Declaration & Prayer:
I receive God’s grace freely given to me (Ephesians 2:8-9)
I rest in God’s unfailing love and delight (Zephaniah 3:17)
I am saved by grace, not by works or striving (Titus 3:5)
My worth is secured by Jesus’ sacrifice, and I grow daily by His Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Jesus, thank You for loving me without conditions or strings attached.
Help me release the exhausting need to prove myself.
Teach me to rest in Your grace and accept the love You freely offer.
Let my heart rejoice in Your delight over me,
and empower me by Your Spirit to become more like You each day.
In Your name, Amen.
Challenge:
Today, take a break from striving.
Say no to performance-based approval and yes to God’s grace.
Write down or speak out loud:
“I am loved and accepted exactly as I am, and I am growing into who Christ created me to be.”
Additional Scripture:
—Titus 3:5 (AMP) “He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we have done, but because of His own compassion and mercy, by the cleansing of the new birth (spiritual transformation, regeneration) and renewing by the Holy Spirit”
—2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP) “And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.”
