Day 8 – The Jack-O’-Lantern Lie

Subtitle: Is the jack-o’-lantern more than a decoration?
That glowing jack-o’-lantern isn’t as innocent as you may think.

Devotional Message: Jack-o’-lanterns trace back to carved turnips in Ireland, used to ward off evil spirits.

Pumpkins later replaced them in America, but the meaning stayed—lanterns meant protection against the evil spirits.

Today, smiling pumpkins may look cute, but their roots are tied to superstition and fear.

God tells us our protection is not in symbols, charms, or glowing faces—but in His presence.

The Lord is our light and salvation; we have no reason to fear the darkness.

Scripture: The Lord is my light and my salvation— Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life— Whom shall I dread? (Psalm 27:1 AMP)

Reflection Question: Do I trust in symbols or in God’s light for protection?

Challenge: Place a Scripture verse on your front door as your true “light.”

Salvation Call: Heavenly Father, I come to you as a sinner in need of your grace.  I repent of my sins and surrender my life to Jesus Christ. Jesus, I ask for you to be my Lord and Savior over every area of my life. Let Your will be done in my life Lord. Jesus, place in me Your Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to be my helper through all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
