Boo! Fear Not. 31 Days of Spiritual Armor.
Day 2 – The Festival of the Dead
Subtitle: Why is fear the foundation of Halloween?
Fear was baked into Halloween from the beginning.
Devotional Message: Samhain was seen as a time when spirits of the dead roamed the earth. People offered food and sacrifices to appease them.
Fear drove their rituals—fear of death, fear of spirits, fear of the unknown. Yet God tells us that fear is not from Him.
Halloween still thrives on fear today: haunted houses, horror movies, and costumes that glorify death.
When you follow Christ, you are called out of fear into power, love, and a sound mind.

Scripture: For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP)
Reflection Question: Where do I see fear disguised as entertainment in my life?
Challenge: Fast from one fear-based form of entertainment this week.
Salvation Call: Heavenly Father, I come to you as a sinner in need of your grace. I repent of my sins and surrender my life to Jesus Christ. Jesus, I ask for you to be my Lord and Savior over every area of my life. Let Your will be done in my life Lord. Jesus, place in me Your Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to be my helper through all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
