Day 3 - "Did Jesus Really Exist?"

Sanctified Skeptic: Finding Faith Through the Facts

Day 3 – Did Jesus Really Exist?

He’s not just a story. He’s a person rooted in history.

Maybe you’ve heard:
“Jesus is just a myth—like Zeus, Thor, or a bedtime story that got out of hand.”
But what if Jesus is the most historically verified person of His time…
and the real question isn’t “Did He exist?”
It’s: Will you respond to who He claimed to be?

Devotional

Skepticism is healthy when it’s honest. But history doesn’t leave much room for doubt on this one: Jesus of Nazareth lived, taught, was crucified, and launched a movement that changed the world.

Secular historians like Tacitus, Josephus, and Pliny the Younger—not Christians—mention Jesus by name and reference His death and the early Christian movement.
These are not religious texts—they’re ancient receipts stamped in Roman ink.

Even Bart Ehrman, a secular agnostic scholar, says:

“The idea that Jesus did not exist is a fringe theory that no serious historian takes seriously.”

Luke 1:1-3 (AMP) shows us that Scripture itself was written as investigative history:

“Since [as is well known] many have undertaken to compile an orderly account of the things which have been fulfilled among us… it seemed fitting for me also… to write an orderly account for you… so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.”

Christianity doesn’t rest on blind belief—it rests on verifiable history.
And that history leads to one unavoidable question:
If Jesus was real… what do you do with Him now?

The search for truth doesn’t end here.

Reflection

Have you ever questioned whether Jesus really existed?
What new evidence or insights surprise you?
Ask God to help you see Jesus not just as a historical figure—but as your personal Savior.

Declaration & Prayer

I believe Jesus existed and changed history forever (Luke 1:3-4)
I seek to understand who Jesus truly is and what He means for my life (Matthew 16:15)
I welcome both historical truth and spiritual revelation (John 20:31)
I am open to the evidence that points to Jesus as the Son of God (Romans 1:4)

Jesus, if You are who You say You are, then I want to know You.
Thank You for anchoring truth in history and inviting me to explore it honestly.
Open my eyes to what’s real—not just what’s popular or comfortable.
Draw me closer to the truth that leads to life.
In Your name, Amen.

Challenge

Look up two non-Christian historical sources that mention Jesus (e.g., Josephus, Tacitus).
Write down one quote that stands out—and reflect on what it means for your view of Jesus.
